Why do people come back from service trips in other countries saying it was the best experience of their life-?

and how it was so touching and life changing- and then continue living their lives as they did before? of course they have a new awareness, yadda yadda yadda, but i mean, why don't they just stay, and devote their lives serving the poor, then wouldn't everyday be the best experience of their lives? i'm not trying to make anyone feel guilty! that would be totally hypocritical. i'm just wondering why people think this may be.Why do people come back from service trips in other countries saying it was the best experience of their life-?
Many do stay, or go back. Then there is the group that you speak of, self gratification, they are so glad to get back into their own little world and just brag about what they did.

Once they are back home, safe and secure they tend to forget about the experience they have just been through.

But all in all I think that enough truly good people had no idea how bad the quality of life was in some parts of the world. And like a school teacher, if you reach just one student, job well done. I admire the ones that made the total commitment to go back and really help or to stay there.it is a whole different way of life.....thank you
