Can artists and people who change the world live a good life themselves?

Because it happens that many sacrificed their own life. I'm especially concerned about artists: Van Gogh, Marilyn Monroe, Jim Morrison, and too many to count. You know, they didn't exactly have a dreamy life. Also prophets like Jesus and Muhammed, did they live the life of their dreams? What about Nietzche? Try to get the point. Is self-sacrifice necessary to give a contribute to the world? Can one enjoy his/her life while giving to the world? What has the prority? Big question I guess. Can artists and people who change the world live a good life themselves?
I suppose that society and humans are currently in the point where in order for a person to have a extreme or large effect humans as a whole. In order for a person to be remembered or recognized they must do something very big in consequence, and whats something that every person considers important and vital? The essence of life is something magical and somewhat unknown to many. It is biologically protected by the person holding life in order to survive and live longer. It also significant because with life a person can experience 'feel good' emotions such as love and kindness. If an attempt or thought of destroying these possibilities is considered then that act/person must be important. Although this thought mainly concerns those people committed self sacrifice to make a point. Perhaps the consumption of life was linked with our past ancestors many societies believed that by self sacrifice makes the person important in the temporary memory of the future. Which would be the case for the Mayan sacrifice. I think the thought of self sacrifice is important in the current mind of most humans. Since we are still not that evolved to think beyond life and other greater potentials a person or entity has to offer. Perhaps in the near future things can change, but I highly doubt that. Probably a even bigger and greater sacrifice would take place before humans can realize the nearing demise...?
