What happened to people changing the world?

I'm really sick and tired of people bitching about their lives but not taking any action. Me and my friends are changing the world with riots and protests. I want to know how you are changing the world. What happened to people changing the world?
“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.” — Leo TolstoyWhat happened to people changing the world?
Agreed. Now a person wishes to have an agreement signed between Governments of all nations to have Non Proliferation of Cars as well as nukes. The person has no means to do so so what can the person do well maybe join a movement but really how to change. Set up a Peace Party maybe but can the person convince people to vote for it because of this reason and if so what's the point as Governments can handle it. Maybe first though each and every person should right now draw one up sign it and send it to their Governments. Agree among themselves. Posters saying Ban Cars, Cars As Dangerous as Nukes. At least everyone could sign an agreement to ban their cars .What happened to people changing the world?
I can't say that I've done anything significant yet (other than digging up all the corruption of the local government and displaying it to the public), but MAN do I want to do something HUGE! My friends in general are more the kinds of people who accept that things kind of suck, but won't do anything about it. I am not like that, and will take a stand against this. I don't know what I'll do yet, but it will definately be something. I'm thinking of joining in on some political protests and just doing a bit of civil disobedience, maybe a No-Child-Left-Behind walkout? I can't even explain to you how pissed I'll be that I'll only be 17 instead of 18 this November...What happened to people changing the world?
I have a job to pay taxes that allows the govt to steal from me then waste it that is what I am doing. You are a baby and complainer who whines because he is not getting his way much like a little todler crying and screaming in the aisle because mommy would not buy you a toy.

Keep in mind not all change is good and when you try to change things from a radical mindset based on liberalism the outcome is different from the intended change. Case in point the Poverty war has only enambled poverty to continue to those who the intended help was supposed to help. What happened to people changing the world?
Oh, they're still around. They're still libbies. They just cut their hair and wear suits now and have vacation houses, but they still think the US is a bad place. They just wanted their piece.

Oh, really? Ever hear of Ghandi or Martin Luther King, Jr.? They changed the world, too, with better English and no violence. Try it some time. What happened to people changing the world?
most people change the world for the worse.

riots, and protests are civil disorder, and unless you go all the way (like the founding fathers in 1776), 'ain't **** to do'.What happened to people changing the world?
I change the world by arresting rioters and macing protesters. What happened to people changing the world?
They're probably lazy and want others to change the world. What happened to people changing the world?

Do people feel this way or am I the only one who does? thank you for your answers. How do you cope with the anxiety before a life-changing event?
Surgery is a scary thing. Do you really want the surgery? Is the change going to be one that you have yearned for, or is it something else? If I were you, I'd speak to my doctor and get some short term anxiety meds to tide you over until the date, if the date is close. Can University Life change ways of boring old life?

i have not been happy recently ive had a lot going on, ive been depressed etc.

I am going unviersity soon and i was wondering if i will have a good time there, ive seen it change my friends and they are happy going university. I was wondering if it can also change peoples lives by having a good time and possibly change me for what i am today? Can University Life change ways of boring old life?
oh yeah. think of it as a fresh start to meet new people, find yourself, get laid a few times and most importantly throw away your past life and make the best of a new experienceCan University Life change ways of boring old life?
It has the ability to make you happy and change your life, but it won't do that without you doing your part.

In other words, you have to go in with a confident outlook and make an effort to meet new people and try new things (I mean activities and the like), and if you branch out of your comfort zone and have a good time, you'll find that college can be wonderful. Can University Life change ways of boring old life?
Ummm well that depends on you dude...must say my life has changed a bit....loads more freedom, can smoke when I want and you do make cool friends...just be friendly and also hard working...alot of ppl end up failing coz the social life is easierCan University Life change ways of boring old life?
Im at uni, and it is hard. Though I have picked one of the harder uni degrees. I must admit I have changed alot though, I have had to learn how to deal with stress and dicapline my self. It has made me more confident within my self because I am learning knowledge that is actually helping people, so I am happy in that sence. Though I am more happy in summer break when there is no study and I can just relax and do nothing. Being a student can be a roller coaster there are ups and downs, its how you pick your self up that matters. If you keep that smile on your face and you keep reaching for that dream no matter what obsticle comes you will do fine and have something to look forward to. Nothing is more rewarding when you get them results back as well and all your hard work has paid off.

I still got 2 years, allmost half there for me.

Have fun at uni.Can University Life change ways of boring old life?
High school, especially my senior year, really made me depressed. I reached a point where I couldn't get out of bed without my entire household getting up into my room and dragging me into the bathroom. I decided to go out of state for my university and it has been wonderful. I was able to go home recently and everyone has notice a difference in me. College really is wonderful. It's a bit stressful but at the same time you meet a ton of great people. They're all different and everyone will open up and teach you something knew. You're treated like an adult and you begin to make your own decisions. So I wish you an experience as great as mine!!! GOOD LUCK.Can University Life change ways of boring old life?
I think it depends on what you are looking to change, try looking at it this way - this is a chance for a new start/direction in your life, how would you like it to be? What are you looking for and then how can you achieve your goals? Looking to meet people and find friends? - Try joining societies and getting involved, want career advice and course support? - Maintain a good relationship with your personal tutor and student support.

It might help to consider areas like these to build up a support network, it is important for your well-being to take care of yourself and your mental health, and depression or any other problems do not have to interfere with your enjoyment (trust me! lol)

Go easy on yourself and use the resources available to you as appropriate! Good luck! xxxCan University Life change ways of boring old life?
IT can be hard work at times, But university is well worth the effort it has truly inspired me .go for it you have nothing to lose, don't do it and you'll be forever wondering what you may have missedCan University Life change ways of boring old life?
This is really a very vague question. What do you hope to get out of going to school? Are you looking for a career or a social life, primarily? Or to meet a spouse? Everyone has different goals and ambitions. Sometimes there's a lot of stress in university environments and it shakes people up when they find out that while they aced their tests in high school, they're just average once they enter college. In the math/science field the competition's so rough there are suicides over getting a grade of B on final exams, especially in the Asian cultures. Don't take it too seriously, or not seriously enough...and take time out to party but don't let the party never end when the weekdays roll around...and you'll be fine!

How far did life change for the people who stayed at home in the first world war?

We'll assume you mean in Great Britain, because the US was in the was for such a short time it didn't really have any effect on the people who stayed home.

In Britain, however, there were serious shortages of almost everything. Rationing was very, very strict and quantities of things like sugar, butter, tea, meat etc. were very limited. But there were social consequences as well. In the time of the first world war, any able bodied man, or any man who appeared to be able bodied, was expected to join up. Those who did not were given a white feather - a symbol of cowardice. Too often, the person who was given such a symbol had a serious reason why they had not joined up - a medical condition, an essential service job, or other reasons. But the tenor of the times was such that people didn't bother to ask questions, just slipped a white feather to the 'offending' male. Sadly, it often resulted in suicides as people were ashamed to be seen in the context of a coward. How far did life change for the people who stayed at home in the first world war?
It radically reduced their chances of being killed by bullets, shells, gas or other armaments, or drowning in the mud (The latter was the leading cause of death during WW1).How far did life change for the people who stayed at home in the first world war?
Depends a lot on which country you are taking about. Also which social groups (women? workers? the rich? Blacks?).

Here are a couple of useful sites:

Women had to do all the jobs the men did before the war.How far did life change for the people who stayed at home in the first world war?
In the UK, a lot of women took on jobs that had previously been done by men. They joined the police force, worked on the railways, and in farming and forestry, and became postwomen and chauffeurs. They took over jobs in offices and banks. some worked in intelligence. A lot went to work in factories.

There was a shortage of servants, because a lot of domestic servants left their jobs to go and work in munitions factories. People had to cope with rationing, and there was a shortage of many kinds of food.

There were air raids by Zeppelins, which must have been very frightening, as nothing like that had ever occured before.

due to the fact that more tax payers money has to be diverted for military purposes in other countries %26amp;its own defence.Britan had immenent danger from other european countries like germany%26amp;italy it had to spare much on its defence which is not case with U.S so many of the european allied powers which lost their supremacy and had to depend on US or USSR hence people of britan consider their nation a second grade power and a degraded financial state than before the warHow did the 2nd World War change the life of people in Britain?
women were allowed to work in fields and factories, etc. People were encouraged to grow own fruit/veg. People had rations until the 50s, and lots more. How did the 2nd World War change the life of people in Britain?
People got freedom and they didn't have to ration anything anymore\!!How did the 2nd World War change the life of people in Britain?
more freedom and opportunities for women, the building of the National Health Service - those in power were shocked at the bad condition of many of the conscripts from the cities. A united Euorpe, the setting up of the United Nations and Nato, human rights legislation - to protect communities from repeating the horrors of nazi Europe.

It also raised knowledge about other parts of the world to 'ordinary' people in Britain - who would not normally take much interest in other countries. Brought about a strong community spirit. In the long term, improved housing - many of the East End slums were destroyed and although housing supply was very limited for a while, new housing was built which improved standards. A new world meant that the citizens had to be better educated - and expected more which led to better standards in education and living.

On the down side, a massive debt and having to cow-tow to the Americans. Also, beginning of the end of the empire. We could no longer afford it.

Hope some of this helps. How did the 2nd World War change the life of people in Britain?
It empowered women, who had taken on mens roles while they were away fighting and made Britain realise they had a new workforce.

How did the french Revolution change life for the people?

The Revolution was indeed momentous, for it overthrew the Old Regime and set or reaffirmed France (and eventually other parts of Europe) on a secular, culturally democratic, politically republican and liberal economic course. Because the persons who were its prime movers defined their actions in universal themes, the French Revolution has remained ever since an inspiration and sometimes a model for revolutionary movements across the world. 8 5

But because there was at the time no clear consensus in France or the rest of Europe for this foray into modernity, the Revolution was accompanied, as is well-known, by social and economic turmoil, civil and foreign war. The (First) French Republic created by the Revolution was established in 1792 and lasted until overthrown by Napoleon in 1799, though the Revolution really had climaxed with the end of the Terror in July 1794. Ever since, the events of the Terror and certainly the imagery associated with it攖he Paris crowd, the guillotine, the figures of Robespierre and St. Just, the desecration of N么tre-Dame cathedral攈ave loomed overlarge in the literature on the topic, obscuring the accomplishments of the period and dominating the historical imagination.

The first modern revolution because it changed the structure of society, rather than simply replacing the existing ruler or even the political regime, and created new ideologies to explain its course when nothing suitable could be adopted from the past. It produced the modern doctrine of nationalism, and spread it directly throughout Western Europe, something that has had enormous indirect consequences up to the present. The European wars of 1792-1815, sparked off by the French Revolution, spread both revolutionary ideas and nationalism (although the only newly free state created by the French Revolution was Haiti). The French Revolution also provided the empirical origin of modern theories of revolution, including that of Marx, as well as an important model for subsequent revolutions. Part of the reason for this was that France was pre-industrial, just as many of the countries that underwent subsequent revolutions were to be. Interpretations of the French Revolution have varied enormously, depending upon the political position and historical views of the writer.

When you change your appearance on second life do people see you?

If I'm in a public place, do people see what I'm doing when I'm changing my appearance? When you change your appearance on second life do people see you?
This is interesting because Linden Labs changed this. I remember when I was new in SL and someone was trying to show me how to make my avatar more realistic. She would give me suggestions and I would try them and then have to save and come out of change appearance so she could see the results.

From the 1.19 version of the client software, that changed and now you can see all the changes people make while they are still in Change Appearance mode.

I'm going to go slightly off-topic and give you a few tips (seeing as we're discussing how other people see you when you are fixing things in SL).

Most new residents in SL are under the impression that to change clothes, you have to take the old clothes off first - thus leaving your avatar naked while you ferret around in your inventory looking for the clothes you want to wear. Not so. You can wear new clothes without having to remove the old ones by just wearing the new items from your inventory. This replaces any clothes you are wearing in that current location. So lets say you are wearing some crappy pants and a top you got in a freebie store and you have arrived at a formal dance hall with a dress code. You open your inventory and locate the folder with your favourite ballgown. Chances are high that it will have some pants that go with it to stop the appearance of bare legs poking through the prims. Click on the ballroom gown pants and 'wear'. SL will automatically replace your old pants with the gown pants. Same thing with the top. The only thing you have to consider is what layer an item is designated as. It could be that the top you had on was allocated to the shirt layer of your clothes and the top for the gown is designated as a jacket layer, so now you have two tops on - the ballroom gown top over the tee shirt you had on with the pants. In this case, right click on your avatar and chose the option to Take Off %26gt; Clothes %26gt; Shirt. You do this with any clothing layer from the previous outfit that is still there.

Your gown will have at least one prim attachment - usually the flowing skirt section. These are not exactly clothes in the normal sense. Attachments fit to key body locations, so a skirt attachment can be attatched to the pelvis or the stomach. That's why if you wear a prim belt it can still be there when you add a skirt prim because each is on a different location prim location. You just need to look at your avatar to see what he/she still has on from the old outfit and remove it. Prims are easier to remove as you right click on the actual prim and select 'Detach'.

If you can't see your avatar properly, try holding down Ctrl and Alt, left click on yourself with the mouse and hold that button. Now, while holding keys and mouse button, move the mouse from side to side to move around your avatar. Let go of just Ctrl and you can zoom in by moving the mouse up and down.

Finally, if your clothes aren't changing, or you are very blurry, try pressing Ctrl, Alt and R together once and that re-downloads your current body textures from the SL database. This is commonly called rebaking.

All of these things are useful when changing clothes - especially in a public area.

Hope some of this is useful to you. When you change your appearance on second life do people see you?
    yep.....so beware! :)

Life in general? Well, the war gave people a depressing, bleak view of the world. The war was much more violent and deathly than anyone had expected. By the time it was over, everyone was shocked at how such a horrible thing could happen. To get an idea of how bleak everyone was, just read the literature that was written in those days. Books like %26quot;All Quiet On The Western Front%26quot; and poems such as %26quot;The Waste Land%26quot; are some of the saddest things ever recorded. Things have to change. Picture the world as it is this very second. Now think how it would be if everything stayed just this way for the rest of eternity. You wouldn't change or age, who's at war will stay at war, who is sick will stay sick, who is sleeping will stay asleep, who is hungry will stay hungry, etc....

There would be no reason to keep on living. Every day the same as the last, no hope for a better tomorrow.

Anyone chose a name and changing it because people seem to be pronouncing wrong?

I chose mekella for my baby's middle name and everyone keeps pronouncing like it is spelled makayla so i am changing it because i don't want her to go through the rest of her life correcting people when they can't pronounce her middle name right.Anyone chose a name and changing it because people seem to be pronouncing wrong?
i think mekella is an awesome variation of makayla sitck to your guns its not bizarre just uniqueAnyone chose a name and changing it because people seem to be pronouncing wrong?
i chose a name that is a normal name, so my baby wont sound like a stripper or a crack head when it grows up. i cant stand it when people make up names. they dont realize that their children will live forever with these names they make up.Anyone chose a name and changing it because people seem to be pronouncing wrong?
Yeah my mom changed my brother's name before he was born. She was going to name him Jeremy but people kept pronoucing it Germy and she didn't want that at all.Anyone chose a name and changing it because people seem to be pronouncing wrong?
i personally dont care for that name, but its of course my opionion...I really love the name Lily Grace and the name Alilah is very pretty so is Kiara and KayleeAnyone chose a name and changing it because people seem to be pronouncing wrong?
Middle name? I think maybe 5 people will ever use her middle name. I don't think I've ever heard my middle name spoken aloud except when people say %26quot;what's you're middle name?%26quot; and I tell them.Anyone chose a name and changing it because people seem to be pronouncing wrong?
I think it's pretty :) at a first glance i thought it was Makayla but then i looked again and realized it wasn't.

my god daughters name is Cara (pronounced CARE-UH) and everyone calls her (CAR-UH) it drives me crazy! i personally think Care-uh is much prettier then Car-uh...i mean...really? Car? uh? psh haha anyways back to your question...no but any names that i like (besides Cara, which is already taken) are simple i guess...but i like Mekella :)Anyone chose a name and changing it because people seem to be pronouncing wrong?
I would never have gotten %26quot;Makayla%26quot; out of %26quot;Mekella.%26quot; Also, it's just the middle name, I doubt it'll even be used unless the girl chooses to go by Mekella or something. I wouldn't change it just because of that.

But to answer your question, no, I've never chosen a name and changed it because people seem to be pronouncing it wrong. I guess most of the names I like are boring and common (although to be honest, I've never met an Ethan before so I suppose it's not that common where I live).Anyone chose a name and changing it because people seem to be pronouncing wrong?
If people can pronounce it then I think its wise to change it.

How and why do people change during their life?

Im doing an essay on the theme of change and how it relates to Kafka's short story, Metamorphosis. Anyway, I'm just looking for some interesting points on change. I have my own ideas but they wont get me to the required 8 pages, so Im looking for help.

Thanks in advance for everyones ideas =)How and why do people change during their life?
well i've noticed that there are certain point in life that bring about great change, elementary to high school, high school to university, university to...real life..getting married, having children, being responsible..these are the times when peoplke change the mostHow and why do people change during their life?
sometimes its the influence from other people

Why do we punish people who turned their life around?

There are people who can't find a decent job or home because of background checks. If you did your time you should be able to start your life over. There are people who completely changed their life. I don't think a person should be homeless for the rest of their life for something they all ready paid for. A lot of people just messed up and did drugs that's why they ended up in prison for posession. They didn't hurt anybody and weren't necessarily bad people they just did something stupid. My point is that people do change their life and should have a second chance. Why do we punish people who turned their life around?
sadly this country is driven by criminals who are told what to do by religious and moral fanatics. I agree. my sister and brother have both done time because of crimes they committed when they were young and stupid and even 7-10 years later they cant get a job. My sister works for labor ready and is such a good worker that she has been asked to be hired on full time at every temp job shes had, and everytime she has said yes they background check her and then wont even let her back as a temp because of her record. pathetic.... You know what prison teaches you?....how to be a better criminal, because once your out, its all you can do.

I think if youve served your time your record should be wiped clean. Why do we punish people who turned their life around?
Why give someone a second chance when they've already wasted their first? There are enough people who are still waiting for their first chances. Tell ya what, when the world is done giving everybody their first chances, we'll go back and give second chances to all those criminals who have squandered their lives committing crimes against the rest of us.Why do we punish people who turned their life around?
Of course they deserve a second chance. They got put out of the game for a while, but sitting on the side lines will not put them back into the game. Its not the coahes call anymore for their life, they just have to work extra hard to prove they want back into the game and will make it a winning one for themselves! Why do we punish people who turned their life around?
b/c alot of people dont give second chances. and business's dont want to risk a loss of any kind. And once trust is lost it is hard regainWhy do we punish people who turned their life around?
Because they show that one CAN turn one's life around, thus nullifying all our excuses for why we haven't.Why do we punish people who turned their life around?
this is so true........ but white america will never buy this........ unless it becomes a problem in their neighborhoodWhy do we punish people who turned their life around?
Doing time has two potential benefits: one is to keep criminals away from everyone else and the other is to hopefully discipline them into civilians who obey the law. Some criminals commit crimes the very day they're released while others begin to behave better than most of us who have never even been to jail.

It's not fair to those who have paid their dues in a correction center to be discriminated against when they are corrected. Restricting gun purchases and denying financial assistance is one thing, but to not give them a fair chance is the same as feeding one's straight A child while starving their other, misbehaving one.Why do we punish people who turned their life around?
I know. I have a close relative who is in the same fix.If it's a felony, it is punishable for the rest of ones life no matter how good one does after they do their time and probation.

It seems that a few make it bad for all, like nationality, being in the military in a foreign country etc. When I was overseas if one soldier did something bad in that country, seemed like they blamed all the U.S. troops. Life is difficult and we just have to try to make the best of it. There are some companies who will hire felons but very few. My relative was fortunate because they had a skill. Just do the best you can is all the advice that i can give. There are some scholastic programs for people who have done time. It might be worth looking into.

    For:

    Woman

    Jews

ChildrenHow did life change for people during Nazi rule?
Well hitler tricked the germans into thinking that people with blue eyes and blond hair were the ideal humans(although he didn't at all match those descriptions). He convinced the germans that disabled people, black people and Jews were plaguing the country, and were not real humans. Jews lived in total fear of the nazi's since hitlers takeover, and many of them were killed, put into camps or forced to hide out.How did life change for people during Nazi rule?
For everybody in the Nazi occupied countries, even in Germany, loss of personal liberty, no freedom of speech, no human rights especially for Jews who were rounded up and sent to concentration camps for slave labour (if they were lucky) otherwise, if considered unfit for that, then consigned to the gas chambers for mass extermination. How did life change for people during Nazi rule?
    Well, the Jews died, unfortunately.

Women and children both suffered, thorugh torture along with me, unless they were lucky enough to escape; or if they were a Nazi themself then i suppose no harm came.

Plus, life was hard because of all the shops and the homes that got destroyed, and many books were burned.

I'm inclined to agree w/ %26quot;Tisker%26quot; -- it would be more of an underwear-changing experience! Life has enough excitement for me w/o stupidly jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. Why do people say life is short?

People say life is short but I don't get how its short. I mean I know time can pass by fast sometimes but then again, why do people change jobs when they get sick of their current job?

If life is really short then people wouldn't make any lifestyle changes and they would just accept their fate. Why do people say life is short?
Life's never to short to make changes to benefit yourself. Life is short and that's why they say to make the best of it. Some people can live to like 90 and that's not short to us, but when it comes to the existence of the world, it's an extremely short amount of time to make a difference. That's why people should remain positive and be the best they can be. It's never to late to change no matter how much time you have left in life. Why do people say life is short?
It's not like you're here for a very long time. Sure 80 or 90 years may seem like a long time. Plus, you don't even know if you'll live that long.

So I think that they shouldn't say %26quot;life is short%26quot;. They should say %26quot;life can be short%26quot; because you never know when your time on earth will end.Why do people say life is short?
    Which end are you holding?

And why if something is PRECIOUS (rare or short) does it make sense for people to SQUANDER it at a lousy job?

    Life is short in retrospective.

In the end life is just memories, so the more you remember the longer it is :)Why do people say life is short?
Because we have so many things we want to do, but our life span doesn't allow us enough time to do all these thing, therefore we feel life is short. Why do people say life is short?

I assume you are old enough to make independent life choices :- keep away from those who have a negative effect on you, as far as thisis possible. Go to different places, meet new people and above all, think positively. Sounds a little trite, but you should be confident that you can change things, as we all can. Should you not be of an age sufficient to be wholly independent find a teacher or adult in your family with whom you get on well, and ask their advice. If, as a young person you are unhappy, your parents/guardians should be made aware of this. Good Luck.As any person or group people change your life for the worse and no matter how hard you try you cannot get?
I have found that nobody is going to change it for you, you must make the change for yourself.

I have a couple of very good friends that encourage me but at the end of the day, it was me that has had to physically go out and make the change.

Just one small thing can give you a little confidence back, and slowly bit by bit you will start feeling more and more confident, things will get easier.

If I can help myself, anyone can :)

    Good Luck :))

The person above me has a great point: Try and surround yourself with positive people, it is very hard if you are around negativity, get out and mix with new people.

How did european imperialism change life for the people of africa?

no stupid answers. How did european imperialism change life for the people of africa?
The effects of imperialism were generally negative, but there were a few positives as well.

    Negatives legacies:

    - Political immaturity. After being under direct rule (British) and indirect (rule), African societies never got a chance to develop or experiment with different forms of government- elections, polling, legislatures, checks and balances, etc. Therefore contemporary corruption in African politics often has its roots in imperialism. Likewise it established the precedent of %26quot;gatekeeper states%26quot;, basically oppressive regimes run by dictators whose governments are incapable of addressing domestic social issues and are propped up by taxing the natural resources that leave the country. The tradition of simply killing/exiling/intimidating your political opponents rather than reasoning or cooperating with them has its roots in the way the European administrators dealt with stubborn African tribes.

    - Extraction of natural resources and material wealth OUT of Africa. The Europeans built lots of railroads, which was a plus, but the railroads only led towards the shore and coastline, where the gold and copper and whatever else the Europeans desired could be shipped into Europe.

    - Complete absence of social infrastructure development. Because the Europeans were so focused on making money and extracting material wealth, they neglected building roads, schools, hospitals, all the necessary infrastructure that is a product of everyday life.

    - Deep psychological wounds. Although it has been almost a half a century since most of the African states gained their independence, many Africans today still feel angry / humiliated / inadequate. For example, Mugabe in Zimbabwe continually plays upon these wounds of imperialism by making white Zimbabweans the scapegoats for the country's economic problems.

    - Ethnic conflicts. Rwanda is a great example of this. The Belgians and Germans basically just decided to call one group of Rwandans Hutus, and another Tutsis in order to make governing easier. Hutus, Tutsis, and many other tribal groups in Africa are largely European %26quot;invented identities%26quot;. Once the Europeans left, Africans actually started believing in these invented indentities, and this has led to many many tribal/ethnic conflicts, most notably the Rwandan genocide during the 1990s.

    Positive:

    - Increased social mobility. Imperialism relied in large part on Africans ruling over Africans- the Europeans needed competent Africans to help govern their colonies. Therefore there were actually often increased opportunities for advancement up the social ranks if Africans could read/write/speak European language and conform to European customs and modes of behavior.

    - Exposure to Christianity and missions. This ties into the above point. The Christian missions gave some Africans the chance to learn to read/write, and thus offered them a window into a whole other part of society they were previously denied access to.How did european imperialism change life for the people of africa?
the ******* learned what millenniums of culture mean and also how it makes white ppl vastly superior to themHow did european imperialism change life for the people of africa?
It changed there lives pretty drastically, they loss a lot of their freedoms and were forced to condemn their own cultures in favor of european culture

They were often unfairly treated and im many cases tribes were cut in have and families were torn apart.

There ancient styles of worship and traditions were usually made illegal so as a result many african religions, languages, and traditions faded. How did european imperialism change life for the people of africa?
The problem with European colonisation in Africa was that it totally disregard the local political dynamics. The Congress of Berlin in 1880 drew the map, and then the European countries just took whatever they wanted, some region (such as Cango) had multiple tribes, races and languages but were ruled as one colony. The present-day South Africa for example, has 11 official languages. So it posponded the traditional rivalry until independence.

The focus on raw material export also made Africa, dependent on whatever material it was exporting to sustain economy, eg South Africa, gold, Ethopia, coffee, Tanznia timber etc etc. The failiure of African countries to diversify their economy was the direct result of how Europeans structured their economy.

  • Do you measure an book by how much it changes the life of it's readers or how many people read it.?

e.g. JK rowling has changed few peoples lives but millions have read harry potter.

But Visioneering - Andy Stanley has changed livesDo you measure an book by how much it changes the life of it%26039;s readers or how many people read it.?
neither, really. It depends on how well the book is written, how good the plot is, and if it captures my attention. I've read Harry Potter the first book, and i didn't really like it. I've also read Twilight, and i thought it didn't deserve the attention that it got. Better books deserve to be as famous as Twilight or Harry Potter, but people just don't seem to recognize them.

haven't read visioneering, but the title sounds interesting, so i might check it out.Do you measure an book by how much it changes the life of it%26039;s readers or how many people read it.?
Changes life. Do you know that nearly all popular books are popular because of the advertisement? Of course the one that has changes life are better. Not all popular books are better that the unpopular ones.Do you measure an book by how much it changes the life of it%26039;s readers or how many people read it.?
a book's success is measured in the ammount of sales.Do you measure an book by how much it changes the life of it%26039;s readers or how many people read it.?
Your question has two sides. I measure a book by the questions they answer and even the rhetorical ones.Do you measure an book by how much it changes the life of it%26039;s readers or how many people read it.?
Obviously how much it changes lives.

People write literature to make contact with their readers. Literature is from the inspiration of writing and wanting to express your feelings and thoughts. So what use is it, writing a book which everyone has read yet doesnt make an impression on them?

its like listening to a piece of music which you are impartial to, it has no purpose.

So if someone has written a book which is read internationally, yet hasnt changed lives, then the sort of cause for the book is lost.

HOWEVER, it does depend on what the author wants and what purpose they want their literature to serve. If an author just wants to share a story that they have written without caring about whether it will make an impression on the reader, then that's ok, however, as a standalone piece of literature, there is no purpose or substance to it - which is fine if the writer doesnt want that, but not fine when you compare it to other works out there that people read in which people take something from it.

so basically, you should measure a book on how much it changes people, because as I said, if it doesnt make an impression on the reader, what is the point in reading it? Why listen to a piece of music if it doesnt make you feel something? It just loses purpose.Do you measure an book by how much it changes the life of it%26039;s readers or how many people read it.?
Neither, I judge a book on how it affects me. People will always read what they want between the lines of any book and make their own judgement on what the author was %26quot;trying to say%26quot;.

I will measure a book on how much it entertains me, moves me and educates me :)Do you measure an book by how much it changes the life of it%26039;s readers or how many people read it.?
I measure a book by how much i like it. everyone veiws books different, so a book may be popular but not change any lives, or it may change a lot of lives, but not be popular. it all depends on my opinion of a book, you cant go by other peoples opinion.Do you measure an book by how much it changes the life of it%26039;s readers or how many people read it.?
I think it's wrong to say that JK Rowling or anyone else hasn't changed lives, we can only speak for ourselves.

There are some books written with the very purpose of changing lives, some books so extraordinary that people are forever changed after reading them and there are other books which simply bring pleasure and joy to people, and one would be on very shaky ground underestimating the effect the last has on lives.

My personal experience is that over a period of many years Terry Pratchett books have been of more use to me in fighting depression than anything the doctor ever gave me.

All books change us a little, tens of millions of people have read the Harry Potter books, who is to say that a tiny change for the happier in all those millions is any less valuable than a considerably smaller group of people being more profoundly changed by another book?Do you measure an book by how much it changes the life of it%26039;s readers or how many people read it.?
JK Rowling has changed a lot of people's lives, she does a great deal of charity work. If few people read a book it has the chance to change few lives. What you need is a book worth reading that will reach a lot of people.

Do you think people once depressed can change their lives by changing how they think?

I understand Depression, bipolar disorder, and other psychiatric illness are caused by chemical embalances and need to be treated. But for the average joe who is depressed, do you think by changing the way they think could help them to change their lives? Jillian Michaels from biggest loser motivates a lot of people with these techniques about changing themselves and not worrying about their past anymore because they are not making good decisions and goal setting and it really inspired me.Do you think people once depressed can change their lives by changing how they think?
OK, Changing your way of thinking can change your life either good or bad. When you feel down as I do often due to a break up I tell myself that this is a stepping stone to what will be in life. We take each day as it comes, yesterday has come and gone but today is now and tomorrow is starting to shine. Be positive in life be positive about yourself. Love yourself and love others. When you feel like your going down then find a friend that you can call or go and see and just talk to them. I have been looking for someone that I can chat with about my feelings. Someone i can be open with that doesn't know me and can just listen. If they have something to say thats great but if not at least i got to vent to someone. I also write things when im starting to feel down. I will pull up word and start typing my feelings then I will drop down below what I wrote and I will look at each item and then write what I can do to improve that problem, what I can do to turn it around. There are good and bad things about everything... It's life, it's not suppose to be easy. Be true to yourself and enjoy life, you have one chance to make it work and to be happy, why would you want to waste that with feelings of depression. I tell myself the same thing when I get down which is more often now that im 3 weeks out of a relationship but each day gets better and each day is another that I've survived. I know things will get better, just takes time.

You said that Jillian Michaels inspires you, well look and see if she has books or youtube videos to watch when you feel down. Thats a good thing to do. Look for others that do that to you also. Not just famous people but friends and family also. Hit me up if you need to talk, anytime! Take care and God BlessDo you think people once depressed can change their lives by changing how they think?
We all have spells of depression at some time in our lives (and this is normal) and most of us just get on with it - keeping `a stiff upper lip` until the depression lifts.

Strive to make your life as comfortable as you can. Get into a comfortable routine. It`s the pulls and stresses of life that pull us `out of synch`. Try not to care about most things you have no control over anyway. You`ll feel better.Do you think people once depressed can change their lives by changing how they think?
i def. do. the way you think about life, and the way you handle stress and unlikeable tasks, will debate whether you are optimistic or pesimistic.

I myself have a weight issue and hate to work out, but changing your attidude of doing things you like to do and knowing it benifits you in the process, helps associate good working out behaviors.

not feeling guilty about eating foods that aren't so healthy can also change. positivity keeps people movtivated. associate yourself around positive people, and then you yourself can change as well.Do you think people once depressed can change their lives by changing how they think?
Certainly. If you learn how to know when you start having a mood swing (which you can do by observing yourself everyday), you can counteract it before it starts. You do this by avoiding stress for maybe an hour or two, and by thinking positively about bad situations. (For example, I'm in an algebra class that's too easy and has no college credits. I think, %26quot;Well at least I'll start out college with a high GPA%26quot;) Don't let little things get to you, when they do just clear you mind and look at something that gives you peace. You should also try fish oil or flax seed oil pills. They have omega-3 fatty acids, which may help regulate mental instability.Do you think people once depressed can change their lives by changing how they think?
I believe that your thoughts and actions are a major part of feeling better whether you take medication or not. If you are taking antidepressants and continue to sit around and mope and feel sorry for yourself, then you aren't going to change much about the way you feel. You have to let the shame, guilt and fear go and do things that make you feel pride in yourself again. It's easy to say but harder to do especially if you have been suffering from depression but it is vital if you want to really feel better.Do you think people once depressed can change their lives by changing how they think?
It depends on what you're depressed about.

I mean if you lost both leg and you had a passion for running, it's quite obvious that you might get depressed because now you have to run with prosthetics or not run at all.

Or let's say someone dear to you died or left, then it's obvious they're never coming back. So you might get depressed for that.

But if you're depressed about something in life, then usually that gets better when such things return. Like let's say you're depressed about being single or something, then usually that gets resolved once you met someone.

So it really depends on what. But I think overall over time, you sort of go up or down depending on what you're depressed about.Do you think people once depressed can change their lives by changing how they think?
That's what therapy is all about....... learning how to change the way you think and behave. Yes it works but it's not as easy as just saying %26quot;today I'll be happy%26quot;.Do you think people once depressed can change their lives by changing how they think?
One of the things they have to do first is to vent all of their sad and hurt feelings. Normally there is a struggle and it causes it to be repressed. If you just tell someone or write down your uncensored thoughts you will be freer. Just remember it's like a glass you can't have two things in it at once. You have to empty one out before the other one can come in.Do you think people once depressed can change their lives by changing how they think?
It's true, just changing your thoughts, yourselves to make it better everyday will inspire people.

What makes people take that big life-changing conversion to Christianity and become born again? I choose not?!

I have studied Christianity for a while. All starting with my fascination with Jesus. But I don't know why. I'm happy as I am rather than having to be happy and in a good mood all the time like a Christian lol I have been willing to follow %26quot;God%26quot;, but I don't know if god is even real. I admit there had to have been a beginning and perhaps we do have a purpose and god created us for it. Why then did he not anoint a guy like Abraham, let Moses set the commandments, deliver his son Jesus Christ and reveal his care for us in his love letter the bible? My questions about life therefore...lead to the bible as it must be the word of God! But I still know from common sense that...this cannot be true...Because God doesnt reveal any ox-lion faced angels with several human arms anymore as to Ezekiel...and I have more of an addiction to TV/Film (breaking the graven image commandment christians ignore!!!) and jacking off...What makes people take that big life-changing conversion to Christianity and become born again? I choose not?!
Sorry, I didn't read the whole tome.

Believing Christ means to believe what He said; what He taught. It means believing and understand the gospel, and it is apparent you have no clue as to what the gospel is.

.What makes people take that big life-changing conversion to Christianity and become born again? I choose not?!
If you want to end the confusion about %26quot;being saved,%26quot; read this.. http://gospeleingma.com That whole story is told from Jesus Christ's point of view RATHER THAN the Pauline theology we hear these days.

If you have respect for what Jesus was actually teaching... then it is a must read.

Take care, and thanks for the nice questionn. What makes people take that big life-changing conversion to Christianity and become born again? I choose not?!
Salvation is a free gift! You can't work your way into heaven. The truth is that the Bible makes how to go to heaven clear and easy. The only way to be saved and go to heaven and not the eternal lake of fire is by believing in this life that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross and rose again (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe this and you are saved!

Pray right now and ask Jesus to forgive your sins, and thank Him for eternal life and that you will be in heaven with Him forever when you die :)What makes people take that big life-changing conversion to Christianity and become born again? I choose not?!
Let us say you want the truth - and nothing but the truth. Then read and follow up on 'The Talmud Jmmanuel' text.

This is the original text from which the new testament gospels were written from. See the videotaped lectures by James Deardorff, Ed T Martin and Dietmar Rothe - also the British documentary %26quot;Did Jesus Die?%26quot; which presents the same events as the Talmud Jmmanuel.

Of course - Christianity doesn't make any sense, nor does the religion of the Jews and Muslims.

You have to followup on 'Jesus' as such, a prophet and healer - and not about the 'resurrection' which never happened - he was not the Son of God, or world saviour, etc etc.

    Believe in what is believable...

You have to save yourself - no one else can do that for you. We all have to grow up, and be responsible for our own actions, etc.

The concept of God - in any of it's aspects is a false one. A cosmic Santa Claus does not exist - who grants wishes for those who worship and praise 'it'. Neither does it make any sense at all - unless as a ruse for religions to use against the public - so that they (religion) gets the power and control over the people by proxy.

Sure - something could well have started the whole myth off... but it could only have been someone or something who posed as 'God' to gain power and control. Say, an ET - the ET question comes into it, because such descriptions are in the Bible - likewise all gods and god in all cultures were ETs too - there are UFO and ET sightings all throughout mankind's history, and that prophets were UFO contactees - explaining why they met God on a mountain top or in the desert in isolated places.

those angels represent the gospels and the four prime creatures from the earth. ox -servant, lion -judge, man -sinner, eagle -savior... they all worship the Christ. the Bible is beyond common sense, sadly it is an uncommon sense. common sense does not dictate what God imparts. the Word of God is flawless and beautiful. What makes people take that big life-changing conversion to Christianity and become born again? I choose not?!
long question, what makes us believe is faith. faith is believing in the unseen. its a deeply personal thing that is difficult at best to sum up in the frame of your question.

why is the rainbow pretty? who do ppl eat cheese?

its a the longest vague question iv ever seen reallyWhat makes people take that big life-changing conversion to Christianity and become born again? I choose not?!
Your choice...dangerous thinking though...very dangers. For we know not the day nor the hour we will pass away. You an walk out in the street, get hit by a car and die. What would you do then with your line of logic? Again, it's your choice. What makes people take that big life-changing conversion to Christianity and become born again? I choose not?!
Then you know that in the Bible mocking God is the one sin treated by God apart from Faith !! Your pains to be disrespectful belie your search for the Truth. I'm not fooled and I don't think -- at least I hope -- no one else is.

May you be visited for it, as the Bible says. What makes people take that big life-changing conversion to Christianity and become born again? I choose not?!
Most have come face to face with death and survived. What makes people take that big life-changing conversion to Christianity and become born again? I choose not?!
It takes freedom from self and pride - that is what it takes!

It's not that I don't currently have those things too - it's that

those things block the commitment to Christ as well.

Life is about faith, hope, and love, not about living a fun

but empty and useless life at a spiritual loss.

We are body, soul, and spirit and must not seek false

hungers for any of those areas.

The body - healthy food and exercise - not junk food

The soul - knowledge and understanding - not foolishness, hatred, etc.

The spirit - peace and security in God (our spirit knows God -

is in fellowship with God - the source of life) - not spiritual weakness %26amp; death

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtBgUCf9grI%26amp;NR=1Why my motherland prevents people from making a life changing decision?
Hinduism believe in blind faith and slavery and they want to keep low cast people under their thumb. Why my motherland prevents people from making a life changing decision?
There was no audio and I didn't see any writing except a few headlines. I can certainly understand why those in the lower caste would want to convert to a religion which doesn't downgrade them as persons. I'm not sure what the government is doing about it, but I would imagine it has to do with the same thing that kept people slaves in the US for so many years. They don't want to lose a class of people who will do the dirty work willingly for the rest of them. Why my motherland prevents people from making a life changing decision?
Slavery was begun pretty much as soon as men realized they were stronger than women.. and also stronger often than other men.. so slavery is not new to the planet.. how to get your entire country to stop? How to get the entire world to stop? That means calling on God to come and put things in order.. and He said He is going to do that when He is ready and not before.. Until then.. I am glad at least you are free. Why my motherland prevents people from making a life changing decision?
I assume you are talking about the caste system and the role religion has played in the matter.

Well, welcome to the %26quot;club%26quot;. The dogmatic role religion often plays in society has been the root of indivdual unrest for eons.

Younger people have %26quot;forced%26quot; a change for even longer. However, societal change is slow, the things we do in our lifetime take about 50 years for effect.

Peace. Why my motherland prevents people from making a life changing decision?
    Yes its pretty shocking.

The caste system was originally based on RACE. Hinduism was introduced to India by the Aryans (Indo Europeans), and the darker skinned south indians (Saurians/Dravidians) mostly became lower caste, and the Indo Europeans the other castes.

Obviously that distinction is a little blurred now, but thats the origin of it!

I dont think Islam will help, particularly if youre a lower caste woman, you'll still be treated as an inferior.

But there are many Christians in Kerala, Goa and Assam, so perhaps the lower castes should go there and convert?

However, the caste system is primitive and backwards no doubt, and its a way of those with power keeping control of the rest of the population, as it always was!Why my motherland prevents people from making a life changing decision?
The mythology of Hinduism is definitely firing-back in this age of information and it's no wonder why wouldn't a, so called, secular government would not do all that's in its power to stop people converting to the Religions providing Justice, Equality, and Mutual Respect.

Communism against the nature collapsed as well.

Can people get depressed over new life changes?

for example, moving to another school or university, having doubts of fitting in and coping with the work load?

i just feel like this as im startin university soon, yes i would say i have gone through depression before but im just really scared about this.

is it possible for people to get depressed over new life changes? Can people get depressed over new life changes?
I am not a psychologist but I would think yes. You seem to have a lot of stress happening in your life. Please talk to a professional so you can get the help you need. Everyone has their ups and downs we just have to find ways to deal with them. Can people get depressed over new life changes?
really its up to the person what type of person you are like outgoing i think you wouldn't but shy lonely i think you would so ii guess you canCan people get depressed over new life changes?
People can get depressed over anything really. A bad hair day, a broken nail. Depression is different for everybody. For example, my father.. worked at a place for 30 some years. One day, they fired him.. didn't need him anymore. My father didn't know what to do with himself, he became completely depressed.. couldn't even get out of bed sometimes. Eventually it became too much for him, he took his own life. So if you honestly think you are going to become depressed or if you do become completely depressed, I recommend going to get help, talking to somebody. Just getting your thoughts out of your head and going to talk with somebody about them can help so much. I guarantee that.

    Best of wishes, good luck.

And changes like this, usually turn out for the best =)Can people get depressed over new life changes?
It depnds on how much you are enjoying the new life, you can get depressed if you hate were you are. I moved from NYC to Dallas, TX, last year and i was depressed for almost 6 months, i hated everything about this %26quot;ghost town%26quot; and still do, but i try so hard to keep myself busy, i do a lot of cardio and that really helps me feel good. Can people get depressed over new life changes?
Yes of course. Any new major change that will affect what is normal and comfortable for you can cause symptoms of depression. Getting things in order such as housing, class schedule and googling college attractions will help relieve some frustration. Get involved with clubs of interest through blogs or web sites will help. So when you arrive you have some new contacts to meet face to face. Good Luck! have fun.Can people get depressed over new life changes?
Definitely! In some questionnaires used for screening for stress and depression, even a change that is for the better, like moving or starting school, is listed as a high source of stress.

From a planning perspective, it's great that you're thinking about this ahead of time, so you can do what you can to minimize the stress. For example, you can look at a couple of books on study skills, or check out what resources there are at your school if you decide you need tutoring or counseling down the road. Basically, it's good to have a plan for what steps you'll take if you do feel yourself sliding or getting overwhelmed. But try not to worry so much - your past experience doesn't mean you'll automatically get depressed again, and it's totally normal to be nervous about what it'll be like.

Don't worry about the fitting in part - everybody is in the same boat and feels the same way, and there are lots of opportunities to meet people and find people you like. The great thing about college is that there are niches for almost everyone, and social status isn't such a big deal.

Good luck, and enjoy yourself! Can people get depressed over new life changes?
Yes, they sure can. You can also have anxiety over something new or a change........ period. I still get very anxious when I make a change or someone else makes it for me. Self Confidence has a lot to do with changes that you are speaking of. You probably are wondering if you will fit in. ( I would be worried about that). And also, you will be leaving friends, etc. That's a very hard thing. Just be strong and confident and know that people will like you for who you are. You will be fine, I'm sure

Should the uk goverment restrict life saving/changing health care to people that smoke or are over weight?

answer in full pleaseShould the uk goverment restrict life saving/changing health care to people that smoke or are over weight?
no..why should they? Obese people and smokers need more medical attention than regular people. Just because they harm themselves is no reason to stop treating them!

Think of it this way....would you restrict medical attention to a person who has recently attempted suicide? Even though that person WANTS to end his life, we still treat him medically as if he wants to live.

I also have a more selfish perspective. Disagree if you must. When we have fat people and smokers in the system, we are also keeping tabs on possible organs...if these people slip out of the system, we are losing potential lungs, livers, hearts and kidneys...Should the uk goverment restrict life saving/changing health care to people that smoke or are over weight?
To people who smoke. They make that decision. But some obese people have real issues and problems, so the government should help them, but only to an extent.

And what were ur life changing moments? What is the hardest lesson you learnt in life? married mature people only answer?
that I will never be rich and will always be below averageWhat is the hardest lesson you learnt in life? married mature people only answer?
that sometimes no matter how much you give to someone or how much you love them you cannot change them or make them love you the way you wish they would. People are who they are. When you marry someone you have to accept the good the bad and the ugly..that is what marriage is. My first husband was narcissistic, paranoid personality disorder, anti social personality disorder and a drug addict...of course I didn't know that when I married him. I didn't find out till 6 years and 3 kids into our marriage. No matter how much I loved and gave he was still self centered, abusive, paranoid, egotistical, and a bad father. He is now in jail until 2017. That is who he is though,,the world revolves around him. i accepted that and divorced him to start a new life with someone who would deserve me and my love. What is the hardest lesson you learnt in life? married mature people only answer?
The biggest lesson that I learnt was when my dad passed away. My father was a very controlling man and even worse after he had a stroke. I saw how hard it was for my mom. My husband was the same kind of controlling man.

Anyway after my dad passed away I saw how much happier and active my mom had become. She was like a new person.

It was at that point that I had decided that I did not want to be another twenty years or more before I could truly be happy and be my own person. I started working on myself and analyzed my life. After two years I left my 32 year abusive marriage and have never looked back. That was six years ago. What is the hardest lesson you learnt in life? married mature people only answer?
My life changing moment in my life was when my brother was killed almost 5 years ago. It changed me forever, it was the hardest thing I ever had to deal with. It helped me to appreciate life and relationships more. I always tell people that I love, I love them. Even if it seems inappropriate. The last time I seen my brother he was at my house and when he was leaving I was doing dishes, I just said bye see ya later, I didn't even turn to tell him good bye, or walk him out. I always regretted not being able to tell him I loved him one more time. So now I always say I love you when I'm leaving. What is the hardest lesson you learnt in life? married mature people only answer?
Hardest lesson I learned happened from losing my father in a tragic car accident when I was 18. I had not spoken to him for a year before his death and the last time we had talked it was a stressed and upset conversation that was never finished. My parents had a nasty divorce and afterwards would always fight when he would come to visit, so he started to see me less and less or calling and I hated being caught in the middle so it was hard to call him living in my mothers house still, and hard for him to call me without getting into a fight with my mother.

It taught me not to waste time being mad about stuff that doesn't really matter. He was not the perfect father by any means but I still loved him and he still loved me and we let stupid crap get in the way of holding onto our father daughter relationship.

Since then I have let go of grudges, forgave when it was easier to stay mad and my life has been a lot better since. When i get mad at people i take a step back, calm down and work things out if possible. I don't let things fester. I also let the people i love know it as much as possible and never say goodnight or goodbye to my husband when I am angry. What is the hardest lesson you learnt in life? married mature people only answer?
Don't change anyone to fit your image. Value who they are NOW.

Don't stay with anyone who is abusive who won't stop their abuse when you've asked them to stop.

Do not ever stay with a substance abuser or an alcoholic, or someone who is physically violent or even threatens you. Don;t stay with anyone who won;t let you grow the way YOU want to grow.

Since you specify %26quot;creative people%26quot;, we'll dispense with the more obvious life-changing events such as the death or illness of someone close ( or yourself ), winning a random event like a lottery, gaining or losing a large sum of money through no special effort of yours ( like the stock market ).

For a creative person, the sudden life-changing events are concerned with that creativity: a sudden acceptance or rejection of a creative product that either validates or puts into question your actual creativity; a break-through or obstacle ( like seeing through a writer's block or having one appear ) or, best of all, entry into a %26quot;zone%26quot; of creativity where time passes without notice and things appear without seeming effort.Creative People: How could your life Change in a Minute?
