Why should people who have made life changing mistakes be given the money of people who did not make the same-

mistakes? Is it fair that the government uses our tax dollars to give to a person who has had a child in a unstable relationship? Shouldn't we just take the child out of such a terrible existence? After all, it is not the childrens' fault their parents mad bad decisions.

Is it fair that the government uses our tax dollars to support people who, because they dropped out of school, can't support themselves? Why should the stable citizens take responsibility for the unstable citizens? After all, it is not their fault someone chose to quit school at 16, get wasted on God knows what, and then realize they can live off of the hard work of others. Why should people who have made life changing mistakes be given the money of people who did not make the same-
Some broad generalizations there........Do people only drop out of school because they're high on who knows what? I dropped out in my jr year as I was bored doing work that simple %26amp; wanted to earn some $$ working fulltime. Went on to obtain BA degree.

I agree w your precept, but other issues at work here. One is kids being graduated who still lack some core skills....but that'a NOT a money issue. Part parental involvement, student accountability, %26amp; courage to hold back when needed at schools.

I'm what many would consider a liberal Dem, %26amp; I am liberal on some issues. This is one of my conservative stands......if a family/woman is on an assistance program they are expected to refrain from bringing another child into the world until self sustaining. I can here some howling it's their right to have children, which I would dispute while on the public's payroll.

Of course people make their own choices, %26amp; if another child was born while on assistance the govt woukd require insertion of a norplant or termination of benefits,

Public assitance is intended as a short term solution. It has become a way of life too frequently. Similar problem w unemployment benefits in many (not all) cases. I have personally known two individuals who lost their job through irresponsible choices %26amp; filed for benefits.

In both cases they chose to ride out the %26quot;free $$%26quot; using the logic

I bring home $385 a week when I work, unemployment pays me $310 for staying at home!!%26quot; I argued what about pride, taking advantage.....both chose to take benefits for the full six months allowed. This in a community w less than 4% unemployment.

Who's really stupid in this mess? Us the taxpayers, %26amp; of course the(evil) business owner through higher unemployment taxes.(but then profit is greed I hear lately) So I guess this is good as the business is not supposed to havetoo much profit....

The govt has plenty of money is the common response. Yeah our money, all of ours! That's the belief tho.....

Helping those in need is the point of my rant....I am blessed to be able to donate to a number of charities , spend a day a week having kids read to me (K %26amp; 1st grade) Sponsor at least two shadow students to spend the day at my office to learn. The reference earlier to helping folks instead of politicians pockets is more cynical than my view, but shows my point. Allow the people to provide direct assistance without going thru our bloated inefficient (some places) govt agency which sucks 20-30% of the funds away to pay for administration. I would never advocate separating families, in fact one of the problems now is the system encourages the man to be absent or benefits are reduced. Why should people who have made life changing mistakes be given the money of people who did not make the same-
My degree is govt %26amp; politics %26amp; I had some liberal professors, but the concepts of our gove were clear. Govt is intended to do what we can't as individuals...defense,roads,sc?take care of their own.

It's the liberals vs. conservatives all over again. I agree in principle with what you say. However, I also believe that those in need should be given an opportunity to make something of themselves. And, in that respect, some short term aid may be in line. Why should people who have made life changing mistakes be given the money of people who did not make the same-
Democrats LOVE irresponsibility, they woudl not exist otherwise. Why should people who have made life changing mistakes be given the money of people who did not make the same-
sometimes, it is really hard for people to support themselves and a child, even with an education. Should a mother and child be punished because the dead beat father left and cleaned out their bank accounts before he did... there are so many scenarios that you are choosing not to look at and as a tax payer, it doesn't bother me to see that my money is actually going to help people, rather than into politicians pockets. I think that you are very closedminded and that you should open your eyes and look at the situation in it's entirety rather than judging everybody else. If it were up to people like you, children who's parents work but can't afford that extra 300 a month insurance premium so participate in programs like Kid's care of acchs would be denied health care... you talk about taking the children out of a terrible existance... who are you to say that their existance is terrible... maybe money isn't the source of all happiness and just because they get some government assistance, it doesn't mean that they don't come from a loving and emotionally supportive family. And that is so much more important than money. Only 13 percent of people who get government assistance are nonworking... the rest work and work hard, it's just really expensive to raise a child now days. And a child is not a mistake, they are blessings.

Taking care of a child has a lot more to it than just financial responsibility... maybe you should have a child and then you will truly understand what I am talking about... there are tons of children who have parents who are financially stable and are neglected beyond belief... I work in social work and child psychiatry and I see the damage caused by this on a daily basis. 117 clients that are seen in the office I work at are adolescents and come from financially independant families. Which is why I put much more emphasis on caring than finances. If a child is being neglected than I do think they should be removed from the home... and money and government assistance has absolutely nothing to do with it.Why should people who have made life changing mistakes be given the money of people who did not make the same-
The government isn't about %26quot;fairness%26quot;--our government is about keeping incumbents in office...how do they do that? They promise stuff to people...right now they're promising %26quot;free%26quot; healthcare in the near future...who's going to pay for %26quot;free%26quot; healthcare? Taxpayers, that's who...you want fair, vote the bums out.Why should people who have made life changing mistakes be given the money of people who did not make the same-
1: because its every citizens right to ensure the safety and well being of every other citizen...unless your a jerk

2: because many times it isnt their fault they are less fortunate, i myself was born into poverty and when your parents were sending you to college, i was being the good person i am and working to raise my sick, unemployed parents.

3: because if less fortunate people didnt have help.....we would just rob more people like you.Why should people who have made life changing mistakes be given the money of people who did not make the same-
Well, you obviously have not read the laws regarding welfare, child care, or job training. You have also obviously not read the statistics on homeless persons, the majority of whom are not on drugs or alcohol, have families, and actually work. However, if a person is not able to earn more than the minimum wage, they are living on $1256.67 per month BEFORE TAXES. I don't know about your area, but in Colorado, that will not pay for rent and buy groceries for a family of two.

As for taking children from their parents, there is a constitutional fundamental right for parents to enjoy the care, custody, and control of their children. Studies also show that the happiest and most productive citizens are raised by their parents, not by a foster care or adoptive system that is overwhelmed with children who actually need help.

Get off your high horse. If you want to get people off your tax dollar, be a mentor to a young person who wants to better themselves, offer job training to people who are unemployed, volunteer to train young mothers and fathers how to raise their children, volunteer with the police force to patrol your neighborhood, volunteer in the schools to read to small children and be a class grandfather, make your workplace child friendly so that your employees know that they don't have to chose between their children and their employment. LOOK FOR WAYS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM, NOT JUST GRIPE ABOUT IT!
