Why are people so confident in birthcontrol? A baby is so life changing even a small chance seems iffy, right?

I just was looking at this abortion question and everyone there who answered was someone saying grrr you should use birthcontrol or w/e right?

I'm thinking like, have people forgotten that birth control isn't full proof or what? I know there's a really REALLY small chance of it happening but like I really really REALLY don't want a kid so it's like... which do I choose haha. 99.9% is like 1 out of every 1000 times it will be defective odds or something like that right? Well I know a few people who have sex almost 1000 times a year, and you know, a coin is a 50/50 chance but that won't stop it from landing on heads 8 times in a row... so even with good odds you have to factor in just random bad luck... so why are people so caught up on sucking birth controls youknowwhat? Why are people so confident in birthcontrol? Birth control is %99 effective, at least most major forms. A woman ovulates only once a month and the chance of becoming preggo without protection is slim on any given month. While using birth control almost nothing. First the birth control has to fail. She has to produce a viable egg, she has to have sex on one of those few days in the month she can get preggo, one of the sperm has to actually reach the egg and fertilize it, the egg has to attach to the uterus wall and survive the first week or so. They call it the miracle of birth for a reason. It takes an huge number of things to go right to become preggo. When you eliminate %99 of the chances then birth control becomes almost foolproof. Won't say it doesn't happen but it is rather rare.

As for children, when I was in my early 20s nothing scared me more than the idea of being a father. Then a girl I was dating got preggo and I got the blame for it. Still rather iffy as I was one of 4 men she was bonking at the time. However the idea that I was a father changed my view dramatically. I then wanted children and had 2 children that I love more than anything else. Yes it's financially a pain. Child support laws in this nation are insane at best and I think written by lesbians to punish people for having children and punish the children for being alive. Bad laws however do not negate the positives for being a father. Bad laws can be changed. Missing out on the joy of being a parent cannot.

As for folks getting laid. It's going to happen. It happened back in the days when women were stoned to death for getting preggo out of wedlock. Back when there was no cure for most STDs. Never in history has abstinence worked for a large group of people except by physical separation. Send all the dudes off miles from the nearest lady and lock the women up. That sort of almost works. Other than that you will have sex.Why are people so confident in birthcontrol? A baby is so life changing even a small chance seems iffy, right?
My mother used Birth control for 20 years without ever getting pregnant. I was on it for 4 years without getting pregnant. If you don't want to have a child, birth control IS a good idea. I only know one person who got pregnant on birth control and even she admits she didn't take it every day. It is still better then not using anything.

It is actually very rare to get pregnant while taking birth control as long as you take it every single day. And if you are really afraid still of getting pregnant, use condoms with it.

What exactly IS your question?

%26quot;Lol all three of those first answers said something along the lines of it's better than not using protection as if those 3 women could not conceive of a world in which they couldn't get laid. Sad.%26quot; What are you talking about? Why are people so confident in birthcontrol? A baby is so life changing even a small chance seems iffy, right?
People get really angry about abortion and say all sorts of rude things.

You're right, there's always a tiny chance, though if used correctly it's so tiny it's basically non-existent. BTW it doesn't mean from 1000 times of sex, it means from 1000 couples using that method for a year.

Birth control is definitely better than nothing, and using it properly is extremely effective. But a baby is going to be a life-changing event whether you plan for it or not so it won't make that much of a difference, and you have months of preparation to get used to the idea either way. Most people having sex know it's an option except the really dumb ones, so they're prepared for that tiny chance as best you can be.

HarrietWhy are people so confident in birthcontrol? A baby is so life changing even a small chance seems iffy, right?
Because using protection is better than not using protection.

If you don't want any kids don't have any sex or use some sort of protection. Why are people so confident in birthcontrol? A baby is so life changing even a small chance seems iffy, right?
Because birth control when used properly IS effective and is made to help prevent pregnancy. It's unreasonable to tell people to just not have sex if they don't want to get pregnant. What about married couples? Are we not allowed to have sex (which plays a vital role in every healthy relationship, sorry it's true) just because we may not want a child at the moment?

Yes there is a risk of pregnancy whenever you have sex but at least people who are responsible about sex and use birth control are doing the right thing in at least ATTEMPTING to do all they can in preventing pregnancy.

Seriously. Most questions on here about unwanted pregnancy seem to revolve around not using protection OR not using properly...If these folks had then they more than likely would NOT be in that situation.

Add: So that is a yes, you would expect a married couple to not have sex? Are you married? Why are people so confident in birthcontrol? A baby is so life changing even a small chance seems iffy, right?
the way i look at it is if you arent ready for a baby and dont want to use birth control or dont trust it then dont have sex. simple as that. thats the only 100% way to NOT get pregnant. Why are people so confident in birthcontrol? A baby is so life changing even a small chance seems iffy, right?
well i think its because people trust it you know and it better then using a condom...i mean everyone has sex basically and like me and my husband used to use condoms all the time believe me they suck and i hate birth control because i want a baby and my husband is the one that doesnt yet at least...so i mean i take birth control well i just started and we have unprotected sex and basically i could easly get pregnant cuz it takes a good month for it to be actually active and so i dont know why people think birth control is good cuz it actually suckiWhy are people so confident in birthcontrol? The odds are so slim on actually getting pregnant. I was on birth control for 8 years withou getting pregnant. Most of the time birthcontrol is ineffecive due to not being taken right. Why are people so confident in birthcontrol? A baby is so life changing even a small chance seems iffy, right?
Rates of effectiveness are generally underestimated for liability reasons, and are only relevant when the product is used ABSOLUTELY CORRECTLY. If a company declared that their product was 100% effective and someone got knocked up, their chances of winning a lawsuit would be greater than if the company has declared a slight risk.

The 1 out of 1000 means that one woman out of 1000 using the product correctly could still get pregnant within a year. It has nothing to do with how many times she has sex. The actual effectiveness is probably even higher, but most people do NOT use birth control correctly, as evidenced by some of the ignorant and truly scary questions here.

Do you get in a car, or step into a bathtub/shower, even though there is a slight risk that you could be killed in it? The reasons you do are the same reasons why people have sex using birth control, even though there is a slight risk of pregnancy.
