What book changed your view on life, or helped you during hard times?

I read Cecilia Ahern's The Gift, and although I don't think she intentionally tries to touch or change your life, it changed me. People may not think she is the kind of author whom would do so, but for me, she has.

For my 17th birthday yesterday someone gave me The Celestial Prophecy, he said it would change my perspectives on life, and it appears to be a very spiritual book, has anyone read it? I think it is going to be a book i'll highly recommend. What book changed your view on life, or helped you during hard times?
Sorry I didn't read The Celestial Prophecy but I'll check it out whenever I go to a library.

Some of the books that changed my life are :

-The Secret

-Tuesdays with Morrie

-The Last Lecture

-The Five People You Meet in Heaven

Happy reading %26amp; happy birthday !What book changed your view on life, or helped you during hard times?
Other than the Bible, the book that really influenced my life was Harry Potter. They teach such good morals, about how life isn't always fair, and you're never alone when you may think you are. I know that sounded like the cheesiest thing you've ever heard but it's true. xDWhat book changed your view on life, or helped you during hard times?

  • How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?

People who used to be addicted to drugs, then turn to Christ and now they are free

Coincidence I guess? How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
It's all mental. People have the power in themselves to break addiction, however people can't EVER do anything on their own. So, they say somebody saved them. I could smoke, get addicted, then start eating tuna salad sandwiches daily in the process of quitting.

Did the sandwich save me?How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
The same way we explain people who have had their lives changed by allah, vishnu, buddha, and many other gods. If personal experience counted as evidence, then that would prove the existence of every god ever created. How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
Wishful thinking. They changed because they WANT christ to be real. How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
People who turn to Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, etc also %26quot;change%26quot;.

Heck. I %26quot;changed%26quot; when I became an atheist.

And people break addictions without use of a religion as well. How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
It was their belief in god, not god itself, that gave them the strength to change themselves.

They really should be giving themselves the credit for making their lives better. How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
Did you ever think they just wanted to change? How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
Not at all. Belief is a powerful thing. Look at voodoo.

It doesn't mean we fall for it, but we do have to accept that others do. Some of those people you are talking about feel better, some are still depressed as ever. How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
and the people who kicked addiction without drugs? how do you explain them? or people who were 'helped' by allah? does that prove allah exists? you are stupidHow do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
people who used to be addicted to smoking turned to eating... one addiction can always replace another...How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
fail overinflated claim is failHow do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
not sure what your getting at

the addicted person has decided to be deluded and give up drugs, how does that prove he has a real invisible friend now

he made two choices...............so?How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
It's the faith they developed which helped them. What about people who come out of addiction without being saved? How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
Yeah, just like the people who were addicted to drugs and were set free by Islam. Or some other religion. How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
    %26gt;Coincidence I guess?

There would a lot going on between ones ears to choose to change. Hitting rock bottom is usually a good reason to reassess how you can improve. A lot of folks do this without being %26quot;saved.%26quot;How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
They can't. They can only be angry about it because everytime that happens, their theories are blown apart.

Be careful. The athiests on YA! like to tear God down all day long but when you point out their flawed logic, they'll report you and accuse you of breaking the rules.

Good question, though. Keep 'em coming! How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
Religion is practiced by those who are afraid to die. Drug addicts that turn to religion only do it because of a near death experience. How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
They would explain it as a state of mind. If someone believes in something, they can do anything. How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
luckHow do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
I have heard so many stories about people who's lives were radically changed when they accepted Christ. And the evidence in undeniable. And as far as I know, nobody has ever been saved from drugs by turning to Buddha. How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
In logic, anything follows from a false premise. An atheist can say anything since for them, whether they admit it or not, truth is meaningless. How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
They probably explain it as PMA, positive mental attitude.

Christ said, he who endures to the end shall be saved. How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
If I believed a glass of milk was my salvation and I did everything to live up to the glass of milk's expectations and my life changed due to my actions...does that make the milk the cause of my success? How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
The needed SOMETHING to believe in, to give them hope. It's just a good thing they found to Christ and not say... Neo-Nazism. Still not a proof that any higher being exists...

I for one prefer people finding to god than to fascists groups. How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
That's odd... I've been free from heroin addiction for 10-1/2 years WITHOUT religion.

Addiction is defined by the DSM-IV as a destructive pattern of obsessive/compulsive behavior. That's b-e-h-a-v-i-o-r. Substituting an addiction (ie. turning to religion) is NOT recovery from addiction.

Abstinence is for suckers; only a change in behaviors can free one from addiction.

(Xx Dark...-%26gt; I know a slew of recovering Buddhists. You may not have heard of one but I KNOW. Your ignorance is showing.)How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
The sheer number of people who have asked God for help with their drug problems, and have not been helped compared to this small percentage will back up the coincidence. How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
who r u 2 judgeHow do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
most addicts just get addicted to something else like religion..its the addictive nature of the addict that makes them ideal fodder for religion

although would i prefer a junkie or a christian living next doorHow do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
How many %26quot;people%26quot; were included in your study? Lots of people have quit their addiction to drugs without substituting the fantasy of Jesus Christ for it. And since when are Xians %26quot;free%26quot;? Have you read all those rules they have? How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
Human beings are stronger and more resilient than you apparently are willing to give them credit for. The change came from within. How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
People can be swayed to adapt the norms of societal behavior (or any behavior) if given the proper stimulus. The Inquisition convinced a lot of Jews that it might be better to become Christian...How do atheists explain changed lives from people saved?
You mean: if someone is a drug addict, and then stops being a drug addict, that proves the Jesus is Lord.

How about if someone is not a drug addict, but then becomes a drug addict? What does that prove?

Is traveling still as interesting and life changing , as it may have been 50 years ago?

Why do some people seem to think that it is their mission in life to change everybody else's beliefs?

I don't mean Christians. I know that the Bible teaches them to do this. What I mean is more like putting people down if they disagree or the so-called know-it-alls or the dominating conversation killers. Why do some people seem to think that it is their mission in life to change everybody else%26039;s beliefs?
    i agree with T.

People who feel the need to try to change other people's beliefs may be insecure about their own beliefs.

People who aren't secure in may want to get everyone else to be like them to boost their own beliefs. Why do some people seem to think that it is their mission in life to change everybody else%26039;s beliefs?
Because we are all taught that way, our way is the best or no way. it is really sad.Why do some people seem to think that it is their mission in life to change everybody else%26039;s beliefs?
Maybe they don't feel secure in their beliefs, and by acting high and mighty, and putting down others' beliefs, they can feel better about their insecurities.

I'm not really talking about personal insecurities like their feelings or anxieties, but that might play a part as well. I'm talking about insecurities concerning their beliefs and morals. Why do some people seem to think that it is their mission in life to change everybody else%26039;s beliefs?
by nature, immature people will try their best to prove themselves right over you.

How can I help ? I found a product that is changing peoples lives. How can I help and stay within guidelines ?

Tricky one. I had the experience myself a few years ago where a friend was greatly helped by a product I'd told him about (in a couple of weeks it completely cleared up a chronic skin condition that he'd suffered from for years).

I went on a discussion group pertaining to that skin condition and nobody wanted to know -- they thought I was a scamster. I was pretty naive, and well, all I can tell you is that it's a tricky one to advise you on, and you may make a few mistakes and ruffle a few feathers on the way. If your motives are sincere, honest and out of a desire to help people without deceiving them, then you should succeed in your quest! How can I help ? • Do you believe that people can change their whole life around by someone esle talking them into it?

Or they-themselves-have to be willing to do it?Do you believe that people can change their whole life around by someone esle talking them into it?
People have to be willing to change.Do you believe that people can change their whole life around by someone esle talking them into it?
I believe it is a little of both. It might take a special person to make them see that they need a change in their life, but no one is actually going to get them to do it but themselves.Do you believe that people can change their whole life around by someone esle talking them into it?
i beleive in both, i knoe that if you have someone special in ur life then that can change your entire life in my opinion.
